OUR APPROACH

supporting young people

At Flow CYPS our approach to supporting young people is rooted in trauma-aware principles and a deep understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

We recognise that many of the young people we serve have experienced significant trauma and adversity in their lives, which can have profound and lasting effects on their well-being. Therefore, our approach is centred on creating a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment where young people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Trauma-Aware Principles

We believe in a trauma-informed approach to the support we offer, which means that we are sensitive to the impact of trauma on young peoples lives and behaviours.

How do we do this?

Through implementing strict safety protocols and procedures to ensure the physical security of our accommodation.

Build trusting relationships with the young people we support by being reliable, honest, and Trustworthy. Creating a culture of respect and empathy where young people feel comfortable to express their thoughts and feelings without the fear of being judged.

We acknowledge the impact of cultural, historical, and gender-related factors on individuals’ experiences of trauma and recovery. We strive to create a culturally sensitive and inclusive environment that respects and celebrates diversity, recognising the unique strengths and resilience of everyone.

Providing ongoing training and high-quality supervision to our staff so they can recognise and respond to signs of distress and crisis.

Empowering young people to make positive changes in their lives. We will provide opportunities for young people to voice their needs, wishes and goals and will actively involve them in decisions regarding their care and support, ultimately to take proactive steps towards their desired positive outcomes.

Where needed we will offer therapeutic interventions and coping strategies to help young people in building resilience, manage their emotions, regulate their responses to stressful situations and navigate the challenges they face.

Adverse Childhood Experiences

We understand the profound impact that adverse childhood experiences can have on a young persons physical, emotional, and mental health. That’s why we take a holistic approach to care, addressing not only the immediate needs of our young people but also the underlying trauma and adversity they have experienced. By providing trauma-informed therapy, support, and resources, we aim to help young people overcome the challenges associated with ACEs and build resilience for the future.
